Were you expecting the new Tomodachi Life brand to rear its head? I certainly didn’t, so let’s take a look at what we know and what it could mean.
The switch is missing some key brown But there may be hope – the Tomodachi Life brand has long been known. Sure, we got a clean Miitopia from Miitomo for mobile, but they were nothing like Tomodachi Life’s weird and wonderful gameplay that makes it one of the best 3DS games and you can’t change my mind.
This story was originally published on The post shows that Nintendo re-registered the “Tomodachi Life” trademark in Japan just two weeks ago.
The important detail to note is that the trademark appeared on September 29 of this year, and relates to electronic gaming/video game software. It is possible that Nintendo will renew the license, although this is not something that usually happens.
As HeyimHeroic pointed out, another recent trademark led to a new game: In March 2022, Capcom filed a trademark for “Apollo Justice,” but the Japanese version of the game was “Ace Attorney 4.” Now, look what’s coming – we’ll be getting Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy next year, in English, hence the need to trademark the name.
They also explained that although the trademark is for “Tomodachi Life” in Japan, there is actually no game called Tomodachi Life in Japan at the moment. What we Westerners know as Tomodachi Life Here is known as the Tomodachi Collection: New Life Over There. Who knows?
The fact that it’s a new brand in Japan with an English name has us intrigued, and it feels like something more could happen than just a name getting trademarked. It will likely be a port since it has the same name as the world game, or perhaps a sequel.
So, could it be TomoSwitchy’s life? Tomodachi Life 2? Well, we can’t tell you anything else, so we’ll need to wait for any hints, or see what happens in the next few Nintendo Directs. I could choose a suitable sequel to Tomodachi.
While we anxiously await any news from Nintendo, we suggest you grab some of the best Switch games available or one of the best indie games on Switch to include in your collection.
